Progress made – quite a journey
It has been several months of work on my 1993 VW Eurovan (owned for 13+ years). I knew something was wrong due to the poor performance, rough running, stalls, and other various issues. Thus, I went on a troubleshooting journey that had me performing some regular maintenance, replacing some older parts, testing, researching… and still no progress.
Ultimately, I swapped in a new MAP sensor on the ECU/ECM. This is a $10 part that has three connectors to be soldered to the board. I was a bit fearful to be messing with such an important and hard to find part, the ECM/ECU. But, I was getting desperate… and thankfully a code showed up that verified that the MAP sensor was problematic. That code was new-ish to show up with my VCDS scan. When it did, I decided it was time to go all in with the ECU/ECM MAP sensor.
Result: best performance and running Eurovan I’ve had in years.
